Make everyday count – 7 steps to transform your life

We lost another hero. Chadwick Boseman, was the epitome of Black greatness. The bombshell news of his death sent shockwaves felt around the world. The Black Panther that made us believe in Wakanda Forever is no longer on this earth.

The pain that our community is experiencing seems to be relentless and unbearable. Boseman's life should be a testament to us all that regardless of the obstacles or roadblocks placed in front of you, let determination be at the forefront of everything you do.

What plans did you have pre-COVID that have derailed? In life, we like our well-thought-out dreams should happen, but rarely do we think about the positives in them not working out. While we continue to battle COVID and spend more time at home, use this space to re-invent yourself, re-evaluate what matters and re-imagine your life. Yeah, I know it sounds simple in theory, but can be scary and frankly hard as hell to put into fruition.

Here are my 7 steps to transformation:

  1. Put yourself first. We get caught up in the illusion of what we're supposed to be but rarely take the time to figure out what we want. You can't present your best self to your loved ones if you're a hot mess. Take time to be in tune with yourself mentally and emotionally. When you're happy, those around you will be happy too.

  2. Figure out the root of the problem. Here's a perfect example- you're trying to lose weight. So you go on crash diets and buy multiple products that brag about making you look your best in less than 30 days. During this process, you failed to address the root of why you might overeat or have a compulsive nature. Instead, your approach is to seek immediate gratification by any means necessary. Take time to figure out what makes you tick.

  3. Change takes time. I know I'm not the only one that rolls the dice and expects things to work themselves out magically. Listen, change is not overnight; it takes consistency and persistence. Most of us have an abundance of frustration and a minuscule amount of patience. Sis, take your time. What's for you will be yours.

  4. Stop setting unrealistic goals. If you've signed up for your first 5K but never jogged a day in your life, you may be setting yourself up for failure. Take baby steps. Make your goals attainable and immediate. Set daily goals well within your reach so that once you've accomplished them, you're more inclined and motivated to develop.

  5. Take a real look in the mirror. How often do you get in front of the mirror to do your hair or makeup? Do you really look at YOU?! We have to take those moments to identify with ourselves. Stop avoiding your self-reflection. You're beautiful, and the powers that you possess are limitless.

  6. Seek truth. You need folks in your corner who will keep it 100 and call you out on your shit. These challenges will result in your personal growth.

  7. Stop playing it safe. If you play it safe, you will never become the person you want to be. Take risks! That comfort zone will keep you in the same place as life passes you. Put an end to sitting on the sidelines. Those uncomfortable leaps are precisely what you need.

Transformation is a process without "quick fixes" and "overnight solutions." Be deliberate every day you've been allowed to be a part of the living.

Life is precious and far too short. Make the best of your journey!
