Fix Your Crown
Unhappiness and uneasiness are all around us. Lately, our complaints supersede the nuggets of jubilation that show up periodically. And when they do show up, we easily dismiss the impact that they can have on our daily lives. Even though they should remind us of our blessings, they are overshadowed by the shit we have to do or the shit we don't want to do. Is your list so long that you're running out of space to write? Yeah, it's overwhelming, but I promise you there can be a relief if you are up to the challenge. Today, I'm proposing that we do things differently.
As a music lover. No matter what's going on in my life, especially on those days when I'm ready to throw in the towel and call it quits, music makes everything better. For me, it's that escape. A chance to get caught in words and let them penetrate your soul. The other day, I was listening to Ledisi's new song, Wake Up and let me tell you, it touched my spirit. Have you ever heard a song that fits that moment and know it was nothing but God? The timing was impeccable, and the peace penetrates through the stress and strain of living in our current state. If this sounds familiar, this moment symbolized that we could run this race and win with faith and endurance. I've coined this song as my new anthem.
It's time to show gratitude instead of resentment. Stop dwelling on matters that can't be changed. We love to live in a state of animosity against folks who haven't given us a second thought. It's time to let our setbacks and disappointments no longer cause us to doubt who we are and our potential. Remember, you are magnificent and wonderfully made and the best is yet to come. Turn the corner and you'll see the come-up that is about to take place. Your breakthrough is coming. Are you ready?
Stop right now, close your eyes, and mentally fix your crown. Flashbacks of yesterday are history; your present and future are in front of you. Success will not be hindered by the inability or unwillingness to change. Accept what has happened and move on.
The crown is heavy, but the Queen is strong.
4 Steps to Fix Your Crown! (Repeat as many times as necessary)
Find your sanctuary. We all need that place where we can let our hair down. You know that place of solace where you can have that ugly cry. In those moments of utter surrender, you'll find YOU. Let all your pent-up aggression go and surrender. Personal peace can't be purchased or bartered. Purge your life of people and circumstances that only hold you back.
Identify your crew. Your girlfriends will be the most significant source of motivation. They're the cheerleaders that will keep you in the race even when your legs feel like rubber and your thoughts are unclear. This network is invaluable. Remember, positive energy feeds on other positive energy.
Put the shoe on the other foot. Now it's your turn to inspire and motivate others. I know we want to think it's all about us, but honestly, we don't have the time to be self-centered because too many depend on us. This is where I need you to tap into the last bit of selflessness you can muster and be that support system for someone else.
Laughter is good for the soul. I know you're tired, frustrated, and sick of being tired. Life has been hitting you with body shots and uppercuts. You're battered and bruised, but you're still in the fight. I can't let you wave the white flag of surrender. In these moments, laugh. Laughter relieves stress and releases endorphins.
Maya Angelou said, "A woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing. She goes where she will without pretense and arrives at her destination prepared to be herself and only herself."
You are beautiful, courageous, tenacious, and intelligent. Dust yourself off, get up, and try again. The hardships you're experiencing are the catalyst for the inspiration and purpose that you possess.
